BioParque Rocazul mapEnjoy here a "dia campestre" (day in the countryside), experience the Cuban peasant's everyday life, and partake in varied outdoor activities such as: trekking, horseback riding, bicycle riding, bird watching, fishing, boat rides, snorkeling, swimming, etc. This beautiful park is located on the west bank of Naranjo Bay, and just southeast of Playa Yuraguanal. The name “Roc azul”(blue rock) comes from the blue color of some of its landscape due to the presence of serpentine rocks.

Inaugurated on April 1st, 2005, this ecotourism park covers an area of 496 hectares. It's divided in different areas, as follow:

Finca Monte Bello (Monte Bello Farm): Here you can learn about the daily activities of a Cuban farmer and the culture and traditions of the countryside. Many visits and activities are offered: Horseback riding, a farmer's house (casa del campesino), gardens (coffee, bananas, medicinal plants, etc.), exotic and domestic animals, etc. You can enjoy a typical meal at the on-site restaurant Compay Kike while listening to traditional music played by a life band.

Sendero Rocazul (Rocazul Trail): This easy hike features blue serpentine rocks over 70 million years old, abundant flora including the world's smallest cactus and more than 12 endemic species, diverse wildlife (terrestrial and marine), coastal ecosystems, and archaeological representations of the former inhabitants of Cuba. Length: 4,200 m

Sendero Loma el Templo (Temple Hill Trail): Map of the trail It takes its name from the highest elevation in the area, the Loma del Templo (93.2 m). The trail leads visitors through a beautiful landscape characterize by precious wood trees, medicinal plants, and animals (such as the Jutia), birds and reptiles. Length: 2.800 meters.

Ensenada El Manantial (Spring Inlet): The ideal place for many aquatic activities such as swimming, snorkeling or boat rides. Here you can also enjoy rod-fishing; hop into one of the rowboats or cast from the dock, rods and reels are provided. The fish you catch will be fried up for a tasty appetizer at La Ostra Azul snack bar. They also organize tour to Cayo Pajaros (birds key), a natural sanctuary for waterfowl.

And to really get a feel for Cuban rural life, you can book the Casa Compay Kike, a rustic cabin on the grounds of the park where you can have a quiet night - and a stellar view of the stars.

Here are some prices (subject to change):

• Horseback riding: 16 USD for one hour
• Guided walking excursions: 8 USD for the first hour, 2 USD per extra hour
• Fishing on a rowboat: 29 USD for 3 hours, children 16 USD
• Reef fishing: 49 USD
