¡Bienvenidos!

Welcome to our website dedicated to Holguin located in the eastern part of the country, the birthplace of Cuban music. Although Holguin is located North of Cuba (in the Atlantic ocean), it is geographically south of Cayo Largo, making it a tourist destination of choice for its warm temperature during winter months.

Holguin is the name of the third largest province in Cuba with an area of 9,300 km2 and more than a million inhabitant. Founded in 1545 by the Spanish conquistador Don Francisco Garcia Holguin.

The hotel sector is located in the area of Guardalavaca EXCEPT for the Brisas Covarrubias which is located in the neighboring province of « Las Tunas », 90 minutes by bus from « Frank Pais » Holguin International Airport ".

Holguin is a lovely place where the beautiful flora leaves no one indifferent! A major attraction point in the province is the ecotourism excursions. For those who will visit Cuba or Holguin for the first time, visit the page Dangers & Annoyances. You will find useful information. Cuba is a remarkably safe place for tourism.

There are currently 11 hotels (5,635 rooms) offering the all-inclusive package in the province of Cuba. These hotels are located on six pretty beaches of white sand in the Atlantic ocean. There is a good selection of quality hotels starting from 2 ½-stars up to the luxurious Paradisus Rio de Oro. A 5-star hotel on the nicest beach in Holguin, Playa Esmeralda. Note that the transfer time between the airport and the hotels is approximately an hour by bus.

Christopher Columbus landed in Gibara, in the province of Holguin on October 27th, 1492. He said it was "the eyes of the most beautiful country that man has ever seen."

The province of Holguin was created in 1978 when it was split off from the « Oriente » area which included the actual provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Las Tunas, Granma, Holguin and Guantanamo. Holguin is divided into 14 municipalities. The hotels in Holguin are grouped in the municipality of Rafael Freyre.

The beaches are made of fine and tight sand, which is perfect for walkers, but they are not exceptionally long. Playa Pesquero is the longest (1 km length) in the western area of the hotel zone.

Although Holguin is not considered as a paradise for snorkeling, there are still some decent places like the Eastern part of the Playa Esmeralda and the North area of Playa Pesquero.

We enjoyed snorkel at both places. Visit the snorkeling section of our site to learn more about this activity.

You may rent snorkeling gears at the Club house of your hotel for free (1 hour per day). It is including in your travel package. During low season, you may use it for more than an hour! We also have a dedicated page for scuba diving lovers, which is a very popular excursion in Holguin. You will find information on diving sites and dive shops in Holguin.

icon PassportNote that since the spring 2014, Cuban Immigration systematically stamps all passports when entering and leaving the country. And also: Since May 1, 2015, the Cuban Departure Tax is no longer paid at destination. It should now be included in the price of your trip when buying a flight-only or vacation package to Cuba.

icon Convertible PesoIn October 2013, the Cuban government announced its intention to eliminate the dual currency system, unique in the world. The Cuban peso (CUP) would become the official currency and the convertible peso (CUC) would be phased out. No official timetable has been announced, although Raul Castro is firmly committed to implementing this economic project as soon as possible. More information to come.
