The cost for a taxi to go to the hotels in Playa Pesquero (Blau Costa Verde, Playa Costa Verde and Playa Pesquero) from Playa Esmeralda (Paradisus Rio de Oro and Sol Rio de Luna y Mares) is 10 CUC. To get to the Islazul Villa Don Lino, the price is 20 CUC. To book your taxi, please contact the staff at the hotel front desk. They will call the taxi for you.
To discover the province of Holguin and explore the wonderful Cuban countryside, it is possible to rent a car or Jeep. Most leased vehicles have manual transmissions.
For all rental, you must provide your driver's license and passport (a photocopy is enough). Please note that car rental in Cuba is expensive.
The car rental includes insurance. The vehicle is rented to you with a full tank of gasoline and you must return your car full, or you will have to pay the difference.

It is possible to be two persons on the same scooter, but it is better to rent one per person, because the seats are sometimes small and scooters are not particularly powerful. For rentals, you need to have your passport (a photocopy is ok) and your driver's license. Pay attention to the sandy roads, as there sometimes potholes. Wearing a helmet is now mandatory in Cuba.
Please do not drink and drive, not even in scooter! Holguin roads are poorly lit, sometimes slippery and with potholes. It is essential to understand that if you hurt a Cuban while intoxicated, you will be prosecuted, and you will have to pay the hospital bill BEFORE to leave the country. Be advised!
Bicycles in Cuba are now a rare commodity! Several destinations simply offer no more bicycles OR are now paying. The price is 3 CUC per hour or 5 CUC for three hours. Check the condition of your bike before leaving. The salt air damages the mechanical. Do not expect much!
Holguin is the kingdom of carriages. There are everywhere! You can go to the crafts (flea) market in a carriage from your hotel in Playa Esmeralda or Playa Pesquero (longer ride). The price is 20 CUC per carriage (for up to 4 people).

These are the old American cars converted in taxi. Since the new reforms of Raul Castro, free enterprise is now legal in Cuba. Many of these taxis are owned by individuals. There are a lot in the area of Guardalavaca, near the flea market. The cost is comparable to taxis, but the experience is worth it! We paid 15 CUC to go to Playa Pesquero from the hotel Paradisus Rio de Oro in Playa Esmeralda.
« Hop-on / Hop-off » panoramic bus
There is now scenic bus that makes the round trip between hotels in Playa Pesquero, Playa Esmeralda and Playa Yuraguanal down to Playa Guardalavaca. There is no stop at the Dolphinarium or for customers at the hotel Villa Don Lino (Playa Blanca).
The cost is 5 CUC per person per day. When the weather is sunny, opt for the second floor. It is pleasant to travel around this area in Holguin, and you have the opportunity to see where the hotels area located as well as other attractions.

For those wishing to visit the Cuban countryside, you can see the village of Boca de Sama by shuttle (little train model) from Playa Guardalavaca. For customers of Playa Esmeralda, Playa Yuraguanal and Playa Pesquero, you must use the bus Hop-On/Hop-Off bus from your hotel to go to Playa Guardalavaca. The starting point is located in front of the Hotel Club Amigo Guardalavaca, near the flea market. The shuttle leaves Guardalavaca every day at 10:30 in the morning. We did this trip and it was a pleasant experience!
