Beach

Direct access to the most beautiful beach in Holguin, Playa Esmeralda. 800 meters of white sand, packed enough for a perfect walk. This resort occupies the main part of the beach. As there are no private beaches in Cuba, you can roam freely on any beaches.

You can snorkel in Playa Esmeralda. The best place is in front of the hotel Paradisus Rio de Oro. There are some pretty bouquets of coral and many colorful fish.

  Hotel

The hotel Rio de Luna opened its doors in 1991 with 222 rooms. At that time, it was the first hotel on the beautiful beach of Playa Esmeralda. In 1995, the Cuban government opened a second hotel, the Sol Rio de Mares with 242 rooms. In 1996, Melia Hotels International took the management of both Rio de Luna and Rio de Mares under the same banner Sol Rio de Luna y Mares.

The hotel was renovated in 2009. Both sections are available for all customers. There is a wide variety of restaurants and bars. This hotel is very popular for weddings and special events. There are two gazebos on the site, one near the beach and the other in the Mares sector. There is now only one lobby at the hotel (in the Mares section). The lobby in the Luna is the public relations office (to book your a la carte restaurants).
